Family day out

So yesterday I mentioned that today was to be family day.  We decided to get into the car and head to Cape May.  Quaint Coastal town with shopping, a cool old light house and of course the zoo.  A little something for everyone.  I am not a big collector of things. I have only one collection and we only get to view it once a year.  I collect Santa Clause and all things Christmas….gotta love Santa!  I have more Christmas decorations than I do normal decor.

Decorating has become a tradition in our house. We break it all out on the day after Thanksgiving (referred to as Black Friday for the many years I worked all day long 12-14 hours in my retail days).  Now we enjoy the day decorating.  It stays up until New Years Day when we watch the Mummers parade  (a huge local tradition) and pack it all away. There are a few cool Christmas stores in Cape May that I like to hit.  We skipped last year so I was due for some new decoration shopping.

It was a nice day, started at the zoo.  Always a fun time.  Nice weather, good to be out walking around.

Next we heading to lunch.  I live roughly 40 minutes from the beach.  Growing up, my mother loved the Jersey shore.  We vacationed at the beach for days on end.  Did not matter the weather, we were on that beach from what seemed like dawn to dusk.  Now that I am an adult I can honestly say, I hate the beach.  I can not stand sand between my toes, seagulls swooping everywhere and over priced, over rated out of repair coastal “landmarks”.  This is why I have a pool.  So for lunch we went to a little place with a deck that overlooked the beach.

A little shopping followed, some sight-seeing at the lighthouse and then the beach.  NOT to enjoy the sand but to show the girls the old WWII bunker and WWI sunken concrete ship that lie on the coast.   By the time we made it to the bunker I was out of gas.  We had done a lot of walking and my body reminded me that surgery was not that long ago. I sent the Frank and the girls ahead to see the bunker.  I stayed back and waited.  Too far of a walk and across the sand, I just did not have it in me!  I thought the three of them looked so cute walking across the beach.

It was a very nice day with the family! I am so happy we took the time and spent the day, as a family!

Waiting

With school right around the corner, things are getting back into swing quickly.  Megan made the travel soccer team so she started practice this week every Monday and Thursday.  The season starts Labor day weekend with a 2 day tournament.  Madison also started soccer practice tonight and every Tuesday until the season starts the week after Labor day.  They both still have karate 1-2 times a week and CCD starts in a few weeks….yikes I think we are running out of days already!  Sometimes I feel like a juggler with multiple balls in the air.

There is a fine line between keeping the kids busy and out of trouble and over scheduled.  I will keep a close eye and make changes as needed!  School is always first priority over all!

So other than life becoming more and more normal with each passing day, there is not too much going on.  I still have soreness in my chest and both boobs as well as under my arms.  But for the most part it is just that, sore.  I have come to accept realize that it will be around for a long while.  The frustrating part is the realization that what has become just sore will be in pain again after next week.  At least it is for the last time…I hope!

My core strength is also improving.  Not ready for sit-ups but I can get up from a lying position without help and other than tightness has no real pain in the area.

So just now in the preparation and waiting period for the nipple reconstruction and revision.  Back to waiting…I hate waiting!

Nap time anyone?

I think today is a lay low kind of day.  Hanging at the house not planning to do too much. Even though I just got out of bed, I would love to turn right back around and climb back in.

Between cleaning up the house to get ready for Megan’s birthday on Friday, her actual birthday on Saturday and back to school shopping Sunday, I am just wiped out.  With the next surgery around the corner, I grabbed the opportunity that a Sunday provides and had my husband help out with the clothes shopping. I have to admit 3 full days of activity was something I was not fully ready for. I definitely see a nap in my future.  We also all stayed up to watch the closing ceremonies of the olympics.

Wearing a sport bra for 2 of those days was another thing I was not prepared for.  I bought an extra large so it would not be too tight, no underwire of course but I could not wait to get it off once we got home on Sunday!  The “girls” are very sore as is my chest and right under my arms.  I can not wait until the boobs are finished..these square bitches are really annoying!
