Summer only comes once a year.

For the better part of last summer, my girls were stuck in the house mostly keeping an eye on me.  After my surgery I was not very mobile for many weeks and was not able to drive for a few more than that.  We watched a lot of movies (mostly they watched and I slept), and they spent a good amount of time on the computer.  Frank did his best running them around after he got home from work but the reality is that they spent much of their time sitting around.

Day one of soccer camp

This summer I wanted to make sure that was not the case!  I have tried to both Image 1Image 2schedule events that keep them active and challenge them as well as allow them time to “relax” and enjoy the summer.  Several camps for both girls mixed with pool time, visits to the library and of course a little summer homework to keep little minds fresh.

This week the girls are at the park for soccer camp.  This has been good for all of us.  I drop them with the coach and then use the opportunity to walk the park.  It is a nice change of scenery.  I managed 2 miles today in all of our heat and humidity.

It has been a nice start to the summer!  I am enjoying the time with the girls.   I do have surgery next Friday but I do not expect to skip a beat.  I figure I will be back to normal in a day or two. We have too much to do and too little time!  Time sure does fly when you are having fun!

Roundup anyone?

So after the operation weed whacker story yesterday, the news did a few minutes examining the changing opinions on marijuana.  It was actually very interesting.  The reports went out asking normal folks walking along about their thoughts on legalization.  They talked to all types of people random age, sex and color yet the answer was over whelmingly the same.  People did not seem to care what others did as long as it was done responsibly.

From there they talked to both the police commissioner and DA of Phila who of course were not pro legalization but both agreed it was time to change laws.  In PA no matter what the quantity you are caught with, you are arrested, charged and taken in to the station.  Why would two men charged with upholding the law and order say they feel that it may be time to at least change some laws?  Well, to start, $320 million  spent in Pennsylvania alone on what they described as small quantity possession charges.  Thousands of arrests, time in court, police that could be out on the streets addressing the violence issues running rampant in the city.

I am not arguing one way or the other on the topic.  I had never really put much thought into it to be honest but those numbers do draw my attention. If nothing else it is a very interesting debate.

I get to go to Disney with a clear head!

I received a call from the doctor this morning with the results of the endometrial biopsy.  There is no cancer!  They were not fully normal but for the purposes of my worry level they were fantastic!  What has been identified is an endometrial polyp.  This little bugger causes its own issues and in a small percentage of the time can turn to something more.  For my purposes right now, I will go to Disney with my family knowing that I am healthy!  For this, I am extremely thankful!

What happens when I return?  I have to think about this.  I will have to repeat the pelvic ultrasound in 2-3 months to once again check on the ovarian cysts.  It would be nice if they would go away already!  I will deal with that when needed.

As for the polyp, I do have issues that this would cause.  They recommend an endometrial ablation procedure to remove it. I am not going into detail about the symptoms of or the procedure to get rid of the polyp.  If you are interested click one of the colored links.

For now I can focus on something really important, the quickly approaching Disney trip!  We received our packet from the Disney Express. This is the first time we are staying at a Disney resort so it is the first time having to arrange for a pick up.   I am so far very impressed with the organization and professionalism of everyone we have talked to from the initial reservation, to meal planning to now the express representatives.  There are so many companies who have such poor service, it is refreshing to deal with one who really gets it!

The Happiest place on earth! Have a magical day!
