Spring time snow

What a crazy day. It has been snowing since first thing this morning and the news called for 2-5 inches of snow. The spring so far has been less than exciting. Freezing temperatures, wind, grey skies and now snow.

Saturday we sat for a soccer game in 25+mph winds and cold. The calendar may say spring but someone seems to have forgotten to tell the sun! At least the snow started early today so by 9 am I knew that soccer practice would be cancelled for the night. Instead I am sitting at karate watching the rain fall. Thankfully it has been too warm for the snow to lay on the roads. We probably have gotten over 3-4 inches on the grass before it changed to rain about an hour ago.dancing_snow_miser

As I sit here waiting for the kids, the snow miser song is running through my head. (Year without a Santa Claus). Maybe the brothers are battling and snowy refuses to give up. I am not sure what is going on but it would sure be nice if Mother Nature would have someone take a look at the calendar and turn on the sun.  I have really had enough of cold dreary days.

Megan’s soccer team is in a tournament this weekend. We were lucky to have all 3 games scheduled for Saturday. The news is calling for mid 50’s, light breeze and sun. My fingers are crossed. The bunny will arrive later that night,we would not want to see the little guy freeze!

Do you know where the toothpaste is?

As a mother I field many questions during the course of an average day.  Some very intelligent, some silly, some flat-out strange while others often come straight out of left field. I do my best to answer them all with detail, fact, and sometimes a little embellishment.

This morning started like normal, sleepy girls fumbling to get dressed, hair brushes working through tangled hair.  What was different was the question that came next, “Mom, do you know where the toothpaste is?”.  Nothing whitty came from my mouth.  I stood looking at my eldest daughter who was at the top of the stairs looking back at myself.  “No Megan, I would assume the toothpaste would be on the sink where it belongs.”  Now, the girls share a bathroom which Frank and I do not use.  No one else roams the halls.images

“Well I don’t know where the toothpaste is because it is not there.”  I have a second set of tooth cleaning items in the kitchen which we often use at night.  I have had a basket there since they were babies.  Now it is used when I want to check on the thoroughness of the cleanings or those events running out the door before school when we “forgot” to brush upstairs.  Last night they brushed at the kitchen sink leaving an even wider gap in the search window.

At breakfast I listened to the girls wonder out loud what could have possibly happened.  “I tooth-fairythink maybe it fell on the floor, and maybe got kicked behind something”.  “Maybe the tooth fairy took it when she came for Meg’s tooth the other night”.  “Maybe a leprechaun came to the house early and he took it”.  I found myself getting involved in the conversation, “when was the last time you saw the toothpaste?”

After getting the girls out the door to school I went up to the bathroom.  It seems that the “kicked behind something” theory was a winner.

I guess you never know what’s around the corner.  Thankfully, the great toothpaste mystery has been solved.

And with a turn of the clock

I awoke this morning at 7am according to the clock on the cable box.  It was still 6 am on the clock next to my bed since I did not change the time before bed.  I would not typically get up so early on a Sunday but Megan lost another tooth yesterday so she came springing into my room cheerfully to announce that the tooth fairy paid her a visit.  I was not thrilled to see such and early hour at the time.

Sitting here more that 12 hours later and still seeing some daylight outside makes it all worth it.  Signs that spring really is right around the corner.  After diner Meg and I decided to welcome the extra light (and the warmer weather we had today) with a nice bike ride.

oz10Earlier in the day we went to see Oz the Great and Powerful at the movies.  The girls loved it.  I thought is was good, a little long. Madison just loved the flying Monkey!

Last night I had my first Red box experience. The girls and I rented the lastest diary of a Wimpy Kid movie.  Megan has read all of the books.  The movie was actually very entertaining.  We run so much during the week with soccer practice, karate, CCD, long hours for Frank at work etc, it is nice to sometimes kick back and have movie weekend with the family!  By the way, I just love Red box!  I do not know why I have waited so long to try it, if it would only get the last Twilight movie back in stock I would love it! 🙂redbox_grid_6_wide
