An open agenda, snow and hot chocolate; who could ask for more?

For the first time in months, the only thing on the agenda for this weekend is 30 minutes worth of music lessons Saturday morning. Both of the girls have their lessons at the same time.   Other than that, no soccer games, no birthday parties, Frank is not traveling for work, nothing on the calendar that we HAVE to do.  This will be one of the only weekends like this since Spring soccer games will start early March.  This is a rare treat.  What will we do????IMG_3448

For tonight that answer is admire the snow.  We did not get any measurable snow last year.  Late this afternoon a small storm started which is due to bring about 2 inches.  Not much at all but for two little girls who have been waiting since last year to wear the snow boots we bought it is a dream come true.IMG_3454  Thankfully I bought those boots a size big for each of them! With only about a 1/2 inch on the ground both were dressed and out the door to play in the snow.  I hope it does keep going for a little while so there will be a little something more to play in tomorrow.IMG_3447

Now we are sitting enjoying some hot chocolate and a movie.  Sometimes it really is the little things that mean so much!IMG_3456

 

A rise in temperature

So when I took Madison to the doctor on Friday, he said that there were not seeing much flu but were seeing a ton of different viruses.  He said that it was a virus that Madison had and therefore there was not much he could do.  I asked him about my nieces birthday party and he explained that the viruses were hanging around for days/weeks and that if her temp was down she could go and if it was up he would stay home.  He explained that there was a possibility if could spike up and down for days.

When we woke up Saturday morning her temp was about 99.4 ish. She always runs higher than 98.6 and she seemed fine. She begged me to go to the party.  I decided to call my brother for his thoughts. We agreed that it would be a shame to have her miss it if she seemed fine and quit honestly, with all of the illness floating around I am very sure she was not the only person at that bowling alley not 100%!

We made it to the bowling party and went back to the house for a little while but it was not too long before she started to fade, and quickly.  On the way home we listened to her new Rick Charette CD, he performs children’s songs and was at her school the other day. She just loves him!  When we got home we put on some comfy jammies and watched a little TV waiting for Frank to get home from California.  The girls really hoped to wait up for him but at 9:15 is was obvious it was going to be a while so I put Madison to bed.  I am glad I did because we did not see Frank until 11:30!

Madison did not get out of bed this morning until about 9:30 which is unheard of in this house!  This child is typically up by 7am.  When she came downstairs he cheeks were red and she looked terrible.  Her temperature was 102. Did I cause this taking her out yesterday?  I hope not!  Oh well can not go back in time so through a mixture of motrin and tylenol and a day spent in warm jammies, she seems much better tonight.  Thankfully they are off from school tomorrow.

Hopefully we did not infect anyone…it was a very nice party!

Brave…the movie

While I was in the Hospital after my  prophylactic mastectomy, Frank and the girls went to the movies to see Disney’s Brave.  I remember when they got to the hospital the girls hugging me and telling me that they all cried at the movie. I was not too aware of the plot.  The girls told me that they thought of me when the princess almost lost her mommy which is why they cried.  Frank compared me to the momma bear.  I was intrigued  but I was still on the pain pump so details of any conversation from that time period are a bit hazy but it stuck with me for several reasons.  One because I was happy that they were out doing things together.  Another because whatever had struck them about the movie caused them to talk which is something that the girls did not often do with their father.  This movie was an important bonding time for the three of them that has continued nicely to this day.

Since the movie was important to them, especially to Madison, I wanted receiving it to be just as important.  For Christmas, 120530_XX_MeridaBraveEX.jpg.CROP.rectangle3-largeMadi received the DVD and a play set that included both Princess Merida and Angus (her horse).  She was very excited!  Usually when we get a new movie there is a big rush for the girls to watch it but not this time.  The three of them agreed that we all needed to watch it together.

So today was the day.  I made hot chocolate for the girls and I and the four of us settled in for movie time.  The girls even took turns sitting on my lap, which is not normal nor it is easy these days with their sizes.

The movie was very good!  There were no tears this time but I understand imageswhy there were the first time.  In the movie due to decisions made by the princess, the queen is turned into a bear and unless the bond that was broken can be repaired, the spell will not be able to be reversed and her mother will be lost forever.  She needs to be Brave to save her mother and protect her from hunters while trying to reverse the spell.  Even in her darkest day with hunters upon her, the momma bear still protects the princess fully knowing that she is in the situation because of her daughter. My baby girls explained that when they saw it while I was in the hospital, they thought of me as the Brave momma bear who they would never want to lose and that they needed to protect me.  Pretty cool!

As I have stated many times throughout the process, the babies who I was so worried about somewhere right in front of my eyes grew into beautiful, caring young girls.  I am so proud of them both!

And as a movie review, I would give Brave 2 thumbs up!  A great family movies that can spark even better life lesson conversations!
