Pre-K chairs are really tiny!

Great morning this morning! Today was THE day! The day Madison would nap at school! We packed up her sheet, a blanket, pillow pet and Minnie mouse to snuggle with.  She would have packed her entire bed if it was possible!  Off we went to drop her at school.  Then back home, bus stop with Meg followed by a short (but good) workout.  After a quick breakfast back to school for the Mother’s day Tea with Madi.

The kids all seemed to enjoy themselves.  Funny how something that seems so small means so much!

After the tea I was off to finally get my hair done.  I started to color my hair when I was 30 out of pure need!  If I were to let it grow out I get a bit of a reverse Jay Leno grey strip in the front.  Grey everywhere of course but the front is just crazy. Because of the communion I pushed my appointment a few weeks and boy was I a mess!  I meant to make an appointment for the end of June before I left but forgot…mental note to call!  I figure I want to get my touch up before going into the hospital for the prophylactic mastectomy.  Figure I can at least not look so old while I feel bad :-).

When I picked Madison up it turns out that she did not sleep but did lay quietly like a good girl.  She still enjoyed herself.  We went home an watched the new Barbie movie..love Barbie!

I am trying to really enjoy my time with my family.  Don’t want to take anything for granted.  Things that should be part of everyday life anyway..hugs for no reason, staying calm evening when the second grader tell you she was caught rolling her eyes at her teacher..yikes!  A simple “I love you” as often as possible.

We finished the day with a girls night out at Friendly’s for dinner and Ice Cream.  My grateful list today includes my entire day…It was a great one!

If it is tiny and does not hurt anyone..is it really a lie?

So my little one was quietly playing in the basement when she suddenly came upstairs looking for scissors.  Something was going on in the basement.  I gave her the little scissors (her father was down there also) and continued about my business of making dinner.

A few minutes later I had to head down stairs also to talk to the hubby.  She was upstairs in the bathroom….luckily..because there sat my husband with the tiny scissors cutting out well something I could not immediately identify.  I discussed whatever it was I had gone down to discuss when he told me I was not supposed to be there and should leave quickly before Madison returned. I then realized what he was cutting..the letter “O” and next to him sat 2 “M’s”.  Mothers day..yikes! My mind started to spin , she would be very upset if I was caught spoiling her surprise for me but I could not get back upstairs without passing her. I stepped out of the office and back a few feet as if I had been looking at something on the wall.

She came back down and with great concern in her voice asked “MOMMY! did you see what is going on in there?” NOW…since they have been alive I have tried to tell them it is not right to lie, there is nothing we can not talk about and work through.  If you lie you could hurt someone’s feelings etc.   So I had to do what was right…I turned looked at her and said, “in where? No I was looking at this, why is there something I should see in there?” She ran over and closed the door and said no, just helping daddy.

So nice to see those life lessons setting in with everyone!

Party planning not a future career move!

I hate planning parties.  Who do you invite? Did you get everyone?  Who does not talk to this or that one. Version 4 of the seating chart to begin shortly. Supposed to be a celebration for my daughter for Making her First Holy communion instead becomes a series of tracking down RSVPs and drama.  Add to it my non practicing religious side  and it makes for a somewhat stressful few weeks leading to the event.

Then we have the prophylactic Mastectomy.  I am one of  two dozen plus cousins on my mother’s side where  she was the oldest of 9 children.  Add the husband’s family and some friends, you can end up with a cast of thousands some of which know all about the surgery and have from the beginning other who did not have a clue.  Now I am challenged with trying to get everyone on the same page prior to 5/19 so that the topic of conversation at every table is not my boobs! In the end, I just hope it is a good time for all.  Open bar and DJ for the kids..what else do you need right?  Should be a good time!

I have a mother’s day tea at Madison’s school Wednesday.  She is so excited.  Funny how something so minor in my mind can mean so much to a 5-year-old.  I also had a hair appointment for the same time (to have my natural color put back into my hair :-))but had to move that a few hours. SO I will go to the tea than right to the salon making me very late to pick her up.  Because of that Madison will now take a small nap at the Pre-K.  Now, Madi has not taken a nap for me for months.  I normally pick her up right after lunch. She thinks it is so cool to nap there.  She has already picked out a blanket and special stuffed friend to take with her that day.  Amazing how little minds work!  We will see if she still finds it so fun when I pick her up.

Today’s list:

  • I am grateful for a much-needed chiropractor visit this morning!
  • Megan’s first attempt at playing catcher in her softball game being a success
  • The super hug I get from Madison when I pick her up from school
  • Hearing “I love you mommy” from both as I put them to bed…nothing better than this!
