RE-focus

So back to the topic at hand.  This is a busy “just in case” week for me.  Tomorrow I will drop my script off at the pharmacy for the colonoscopy prep.  I was given an option to take pills instead of the drink but it was some crazy number that sounded just as obnoxious to get down as the drink would be so I opted for the liquid.

Tuesday the girls both have dentist appointments, get them in before the end of the year.

Wednesday will be “fun day with a radiologists” and the pelvic ultrasound.  I had one of these after Madison was born.  I had terrible unexplained pains.  We never did get a great explanation for the pains.  Was told that I had something they described as Gallbladder Sludge..gross.  Diet changes and thankfully I have never felt pains like that again.

Thursday is “prep day”.  Or maybe better thought of as “don’t wander far from the bathroom day”.

Friday of course is the colonoscopy itself, a day to look forward to if you have a very strange idea of fun.

Saturday we will be celebrating my babies sixth birthday.  So between now and then I need to get the house cleaned up.  It is not in terrible shape but it is not in “company” shape.  I actually cleaned out a few closets donating some things to storm victims of Sandy.  A few winter coats in great shape just grown out of, comforter, some clothes and  hygiene products.

So many small business in my area are acting as drop off spots, makes you feel that maybe there are still good people in the world.

By the end of the week I feel I will have been sufficiently poked, prodded and probed.

Revisions, colonoscopy, ultrasound and “Frankenstorm”

With the end of the year quickly approaching I finally have everything scheduled and barring any unforeseen  circumstances, it will all be completed before the end of November!

I saw the Gastroenterologist today.  She agreed that a colonoscopy would be a wise move.  I have stopped fighting it and have scheduled for November 9.  I have my instructions and my script and am SOOO looking forward to it, NOT!

I have scheduled the revision surgery for November 19th.  I have to go for blood work sometime this week for that.  I am hoping the recovery from this one is quick since Thanksgiving will only be a few days later.

Since the rest of the schedule fell into line today, the only other thing I needed to get onto the schedule was the pelvic ultrasound.  As soon as I walked through the door I jumped on the phone and scheduled for November 7th.  Two and a half weeks in November are looking pretty ugly but if all goes well, by the end of the month it will all be over!

In other interesting news, we on the east coast are preparing for Hurricane Sandy or the more fun name being given to the storm, “Frankenstorm”.  They are saying it will be a 1 in 100 year storm.  I am not right along the coast so no evacuations for my family but my sister lives on the coast.  We may have a visitor over the weekend.  If things align the way they think,  we could be looking at over 10-12 inches of rain.  possibly one heck of a mess!  We ran to the store for extra milk, bottled water and batteries and a new lighter for candles.

Now I guess we just wait, for everything.

Refocus needed and received

I woke up fully comfortable with the decision I had made  last night not to have the colonoscopy.  I had convinced myself that my doctor was just over reacting.  I allowed myself to slip into my “victim” mode  tired of tests, scans and surgery. I feel like the last year of my life has been spent in labs, hospitals and doctor’s offices.

Then I read comments from some women whose opinions I have come to respect over the last many months.  Sometimes it just takes a little slap in the back of the head to get refocused.  Seems I have needed a few of those over the last week or so.   I jumped on the computer did some doctor searches and have made my consultation appointment for the end of the month.

How silly am I being?  (not really looking for an answer :-)) I have been so lucky, I know that and I am very thankful! I am also thankful to all of those around me willing to give me those slaps from time to time.

Thank you ladies for the refocus!
